[FILM] Enys Men (2022)

The commitment to the bit in this film is really something quite extraordinary. The entire production feels like a lost 1970s film - absolutely everything from the cinematography to the sound design to the editing is an absolutely spot-on recreation of horror films of the era. The imagery throughout is both hypnotic and repulsive, and I found myself really getting drawn in to the atmosphere despite not much actually happening on the screen at any given time. Unfortunately the film does fall back on some hokey jump scares at times which are really not fitting in a story like this. I also felt like, at times, it overexplained certain story elements which would have been better to keep vague. Really interesting experiment, still, and I’m glad that there are people making films like this.
