[FILM] Miracle on 34th Street (1947 / 1994)
It's quite interesting viewing the original and the remake side-by-side. I vastly preferred the original. The remake, while glossy and well-produced, feels like an overly sentimental "Christmas movie", with some emotional beats feeling completely unearned. The original, on the other hand, is a much more clever film - while the remake heavily implies that Santa Claus is a real figure, the original dances around whether or not this is the case in a much more interesting way. I also thought the resolution of the courtroom drama was significantly more convincing in the original.
