[FILM] Scrooged (1988)
Scrooged, while atmospheric and bizarre, suffers mostly from a very inconsistent tone. It is a deeply cynical film for the first two thirds, and yet ends with a pretty unearned, optimistic final scene. It tries to be intelligently satirical, and yet is full of childish slapstick. It tries to satirise needless over-the-top changes to classic stories and yet in and of itself is one. The main thing that truly makes this film worth watching is Bill Murray's performance, who is incredibly likeable even in the most unlikeable of roles.
