[FILM] The Substance (2024)
I really thought I Saw the TV Glow would be my favourite film of the year, but this one has dethroned it. This is a remarkably confident body horror film, dirty and glossy. I don’t think I’ve quite seen another film with as much hatred towards the human body. The fact that the film is French, but set in the US, gives everything an off-kilter, surreal feel. The finale has to be seen to be believed. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before but pulled off with incomparable flair. A comfortable addition to my top 100 horror films list.
