[GAME] Balatro (2024)
I don't think I'm at a point yet where I can say that I've mastered Balatro, but I do have many of the decks unlocked and a few wins under my belt, so I feel like I have a pretty good idea of how this game works. Balatro is a deck builder that takes the visuals of poker, but significantly changes its mechanics. What your deck can and can't do changes wildly depending on what Jokers and other supporting cards you are currently using, and these cards are so varied that every run tends to feel significantly different.
The main thing that Balatro gets right is that the rules are simple, and the modifiers and possibilities that can change the context of those rules feel basically endless. This means that you always feel in control of what's going on, compared to other more complicated card games, but the way that you express yourself within those rules feels freeing and exciting. It's a wonderful game in the genre and I look forward to delving deeper into it.
